CELEBRITIES can earn a fortune from appearing on reality TV – but sometimes show bosses’ big money gambles on stars don’t pay off.
Celebrity Big Brother contestant Sharon Osbourne has vowed she’ll be worth every penny of the £500,000 fee she is reportedly being paid for spending just five days in the house.
Sharon Osbourne is reportedly earning £100,000 per day for her Celebrity Big Brother stint[/caption] The 71-year-old has warned ‘there will be lots of stories’ about her former pal Simon Cowell[/caption]That’s the equivalent of £100,000 per day, which makes the 71-year-old one of the highest-paid reality TV show stars to date.
Sharon has claimed she’ll dish the dirt on her X Factor co-star Simon Cowell, telling The Sun: “There will be lots of stories, he’s going to need more Botox after we finish with him.”
While it remains to be seen if she’ll be worth her weight in gold, other reality show stars have failed to meet expectations.
From the blonde beauty forced to quit the jungle after just 24 hours to a top signing who was awkwardly evicted first, we reveal the biggest reality show pay cheques that ended in disaster.
Noel Edmonds
In 2018 Noel Edmonds made I’m A Celeb history by becoming its highest paid star ever to enter the jungle.
The former Deal Or No Deal presenter had high hopes for a lengthy stay on the show and even claimed he would quit TV if he won.
However, after failing to win over the public, Noel was the first star to be voted out and by his own admission was “astonished”.
“I was hoping to hang around for a little bit longer,” he told ITV’s Lorraine. “I hadn’t even actually got into my stride.”
The TV star was ‘astonished’ after only being on the show for a short amount of time[/caption]Despite his disappointment, we’re sure the £600,000 pay cheque softened the blow.
Due to his short 11-day stint, he earned over £54K a day – around £2,272 per hour.
Katie Price
Katie Price’s second stint on I’m A Celebrity didn’t last very long[/caption]During her first stint on I’m A Celebrity back in 2004, Katie Price dominated headlines after romance flourished between her and Peter Andre.
However, things didn’t go as well during her second appearance five years later, and the former glamour quit after just nine days.
Katie, who demanded a sizeable £450,000 for that appearance, threw in the towel after being voted for six Bushtucker trials in a row.
They saw her being covered in 60,000 cockroaches, crawling through rat-infested tunnels and eating multiple stomach-turning creepy crawlies.
“Someone else has to do it. I’m just not doing it any more,” Katie told campmates after learning she was due to face yet another. She quit soon after.
It’s unclear whether the star received her full appearance fee, but after leaving she claimed she wasn’t “in it to win it”.
She added: “I’ve done my challenges, people can see I’m genuine. I just don’t want to be here any more. It’s not about the money. I didn’t come back here for that. I really miss my kids.”
If Katie received her £450K fee, she bagged £50K a day over the course of nine days.
Jonathan Cheban
Jonathan Cheban dramatically quit CBB after just one week[/caption]Kim Kardashian’s‘BFF’ Jonathan Cheban signed up for Celebrity Big Brother for a reported £300,000 in 2016 – but lasted just one week.
While in the house the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star described “feeling a little bit edgy and claustrophobic” and said he was “definitely torn on whether to stay”.
Housemate Gemma Collins urged him to stick it out to boost his UK profile, to which he responded: “It’s not that, I’m huge here. We’re on in 180 countries.”
Jonathan agreed to stay for one more day to see if things improved – but walked 24 hours later.
After leaving he said he didn’t want to stay because the “house is turning” and he was no longer able to “entertain them”.
He added: “I kind of ran out of things to do with them. You start to know everything about everybody and there’s nothing else to talk about except food.
“And since I’m the most hungry person of all time and there’s no food left tonight, it would have been a rough night for me, so I just knew that the sign of no food left was the sign it was time to go.”
Given his reported £300K fee, he pocketed £42,857 a day during his seven day stint.
Ray J
Rapper Ray J went into the CBB house in 2017 but didn’t last long[/caption] He claimed to have to beg producers to leave after developing painful toothache[/caption]When Ray J signed on for Celebrity Big Brother in 2017, he claimed to be looking forward to people knowing the real him and not “what I did in bed”.
But the rapper, who was part of R&B group RSVP and famously featured in a leaked sex tape with Kim Kardashian, lasted just seven days in the house.
He pulled out due to “a bad tooth problem” and claimed he had to beg to leave the show after complaining about the pain “for about three-and-a-half days”.
He told TMZ: “It got to the point where some of the housemates felt like I was being ignored, we took petitions to say, ‘We’re not doing any more tasks until Ray J’s tooth gets fixed’.”
Highest-paid celebs who appeared on reality TV
CELEBRITIES can earn eye-watering sums by appearing on reality TV shows - here we reveal some of the highest earners.
Politician Nigel Farage bagged a staggering £1.5million sign-on fee for I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! last year and lasted 23 days.
Rapper Ray J was reportedly offered £810,000 to appear on Celebrity Big Brother (CBB) in 2017 but left after seven days.
Stormy Daniels was rumoured to have been offered £750k to appear on CBB only to not show up and pull out of the show before going in. She claimed to have pulled out due to a custody battle for her daughter making her feel “uncomfortable” about going on TV
Former Emmerdale star Roxanne Pallet was reportedly paid £750,000 to appear on CBB in 2018. She quit the show after falsely claiming fellow housemate Ryan Thomas had punched her.
TV presenter Noel Edmonds was paid £600,000 to appear on I’m A Celebrity in 2018, which was then the highest fee offered, but was voted out by the public first.
David Gest lasted 13 days in the CBB house despite reportedly being paid £600,000. He pulled out due to ‘medical reasons’ on the 2016 show
The rapper, who was refused re-entry into the house after receiving medical treatment, was offered a staggering £810,000 sum to go on the show.
That means he would have cashed in a cool £121,428 per day for his seven day stay in the house, though it’s unclear if he was paid the full sum.
Olivia Attwood
According to reports, ITV has a three day rule for I’m A Celeb which means campmates must remain in the jungle for at least 72 hours in order to collect their full fee.
However in 2022, Love Island star Olivia Attwood took home her £125,000 pay cheque despite only being in there for 24 hours.
She was forced to withdraw from the show on medical grounds soon after taking part in the first Bushtucker Trial.
“She definitely didn’t quit and wouldn’t have quit, she wanted to stay,” a source said at the time.
Olivia later revealed she was pulled out of the show due to abnormal blood test results. Further tests showed she had dangerously low potassium levels and anaemia.
Adding that she’d wanted to return but ITV bosses refused, she said: “They feared my levels might drop and it could be detrimental to my health and wellbeing.”
Stormy Daniels
Adult film actress Stormy Daniels was set to appear in CBB back in 2018[/caption]Adult film star Stormy Daniels was expected to spill all about her alleged fling with then-US President Donald Trump on Celebrity Big Brother in 2018.
She was able to command an impressive £750,000 fee – but according to TV bosses she pulled out at the last minute.
On the show, presenter Rylan Clark told viewers: “Five hours before the live show, Stormy informed us that she wished to simply appear on launch night and then leave.”

He also claimed they were unable to reach a compromise with the star.
Stormy disputed the claims through her lawyer, Michael Avenatti, and claimed they were trying to “script” her responses, which she refused to agree to.
“Big Brother tried to control what Stormy was going to say and do on the show,” Mr Avenatti said.
“When they discovered she was going to do her own thing and be herself, they refused to let her go on.”
Jamie Lynn Spears
Jamie Lynn Spears was described as ‘miserable’ by one TV show insider[/caption] She left I’m A Celebrity after isolating herself for several days and was regularly seen crying[/caption]Last year Britney Spears’ sister Jamie Lynn sensationally quit I’m A Celebrity after just 10 days in the jungle.
The singer, who was paid £250,000, was branded a “miserable” campmate who isolated herself away from other celebrities by a TV insider.
The source told us: “Away from the cameras and scenes that aired on TV, it’s her behaviour in camp that has become obvious to crew.
“She has kept herself somewhat separate, not really socialising and stayed in bed.”
She pulled out on ‘medical grounds’ after being seen crying for multiple days in a row.
It’s believed Jamie was paid her full fee for the 11 day stint on the show, meaning she earned £25K a day.
